For Mac users, if you have plenty of applications running, you might find that your desktop is cluttered with all sort of application windows. Here are several keyboard shortcuts that you can use to quickly de-clutter your desktop. Access the desktop If you just want to quickly access the files in the desktop, simply press F11 (Fn + F11 for laptop) to move all the windows to the corner and reveal the desktop. Pressing F11 again will restore the windows. Note that this function does not minimize or hide the application windows.
They are moved to the corner temporary and they will restore to their original position when you open another application. Hide all applications, except for the active one Hiding an application is different from minimizing it. Hiding the application just make it disappear on the screen, and it will reappear when you do a “Command + Tab” selection. Minimizing an application will bring it to the dock and require you to manually reactivate it from the dock (the “Command + Tab” selection won’t work).
To hide the active application, simply press “Command + H”. To hide all applications except for the active one, press “Command + Option + H”.
To hide all applications, you just have to make sure that no application window is active. Clicking the desktop will usually do the trick. Click the desktop first and press “Command + Option + H”. All applications will be gone. Hide all applications and minimize the active application Another useful keyboard shortcut is “Command + Option + H + M”.
This will hide all the application and minimize the active application, instantly de-clutter your desktop. Note: For an even faster solution, simply install and place the app in your dock.
With a single click, all your application windows are gone.
I recently started renting(?) O365 for my Mac running OSX 10.11.2. In System Preferences-Dock is a setting: 'Double-click a window's title bar to minimize' Works flawlessly on Chrome, Apple apps, Adobe apps, etc. It.used.
to work in O365, I thought. However, when I double-click the title bar of any O365 app, it just maximizes the current window, instead of minimizing to the dock like everything else. This is a deal breaker for me. Does it work for anyone else? Is there a magic button somewhere I've overlooked?
It's maddening when double-clicking to minimize is ingrained into your soul. I can live without Word or Excel doing this, but I gotta get Outlook to work as expected.
My Outlook version is currently 15.17. I just tested the 15.18 version and double-clicking the title bar does minimize Outlook windows. Make sure your Mac has a working internet connection before checking for updates. Mac OS X updates: To get Mac OS updates, go to the App store on your dock, and then click the Updates button to reveal available updates.
Office Updates To get the update: 1. Open any Office application: 3. Make sure your Mac has a working internet connection 4. Go to the Help menu and choose Check for Updates 5. Let AutoUpdate check for and install updates I am an unpaid volunteer and do not work for Microsoft.

I just tested in build 15.25, the Insider Fast build. Double-clicking the title bar toggled minimize and maximize. 15.23 is not the latest update. In one of the several updates between 23 and 25 this appears to have been fixed. The first thing to do is install the recent updates.

Make sure your Mac has a working internet connection, then: Update Mac OS X. Open the App store and click on the Updates button. Install the updates. After, in any Office application go to the Help menu and choose Check for Updates to launch the AutoUpdate app. Let AutoUpdate install updates and then restart your Mac. 'Microsoft Agents' work for Microsoft Support. I am running 15.25 on Mac OS X 10.11.5. Not sure what kinda voodoo the MVP here has, but it continues to not work, and has not worked as long as I can remember. Jim, I don't mean to insult, but you.do. understand what we're referring to, yes? On about any other app from any other vendor, when you double-click the title bar (when also set properly in System Preferences), the app actually 'vanishes' into the dock, or minimizes.
On Outlook (and other O365 apps), the app either stays at its present size, or maximizes to full screen. You can, or course, click the yellow button on Outlook and it will minimize (vanish) to the dock, but double-clicking should replicate this behavior exactly. If you know all of this, I'd like to understand why your system does this but ours doesn't. I actually use this ALOT, and stay on Apple Mail because of it. Every now and then I check in to see if it's 'fixed', but never is. Thanks for being responsive, though, it's nice to have a voice in the mothership!
